Our world has officially been rocked and we are loving every second of it! One month ago, after almost 18 hours of labour, Finn Keegan Muldoon was born on March 2nd weighing 7 lbs 13 oz and 22 inches long. It was a serious long haul. After my very last day of work, my water broke at 10 pm March 1st. After about 20 minutes of running around the house frantically making sure we weren’t forgetting anything and calling all our friends with babies and describing what happened to make sure it was my water that broke, we rushed to the hospital.
It was a slow start. My contractions were painless at first and I was cracking jokes with the nurses. It really didn’t get crazy until around 5 am where I was so glad to have my Doula, Brandi Rivait come to the rescue. Don’t get me wrong, my husband is amazing and was trying his best, but this called for a professional. I had planned on going all natural but because of some hiccups ended up pulling the trigger on the epidural around 8 30 am and finally our man Finn was delivered at 3:42 pm. To my husband and Brandi: I officially apologize for whatever I may have said during those contractions.
Unfortunately our stay in the hospital was a little longer than we hoped. Our man Finn had a serious case of jaundice and had a hard time getting rid of it because of a couple of complications but finally about a week and half later, we were home for good.
It’s been very interesting being home and trying to settle into a routine with a newborn. I am breast feeding, so this guy is attached to my hip and I think the hubby and I are still getting used to not sleeping (explains all the snaps with cups of coffee) and I occasionally utter “thank god he is adorable” but I wouldn’t change it for the world.
A major thank you to all of our friends and family for their kindness and generosity as we attempt to get the swing of this whole parenting thing.
