With the summer season in full swing, our weekends are jam-packed with so many things to do, people to see and places to explore. Fitting as much fun into Saturday and Sunday requires an open mind and some planning! This month it was so great to escape Windsor-Essex and head to the big city of Toronto for a quick weekend getaway with the help of GO Transit!
I’ve been in love with Toronto ever since I lived there during my time at York University, and this month I got the chance to head back and experience some of the best attractions and neighborhoods the city has to offer. There is definitely a reason why all of the GO Trains and Buses converge in Downtown Toronto!
We started our weekend away visiting friends and family in Oakville, Ontario and with few quick clicks on their website, I was able to iron out a plan to get into the city with ease via Go Transit . First off, we were so happy to skip both the steep parking fees and dreaded Toronto Traffic. The GO Train took us straight to Union Station where we were able to hop on conveniently to the TTC to head over to the King West Village Neighbourhood where we started our adventure.
The King West Village is one of Toronto’s fasted growing neighborhoods and for good reason! Compared to the Soho neighborhood in New York, this fresh and urban area is home to some of the most active nightclub and bar scenes in the city. In the heart of it all is one of the hippest boutique hotels, Thompson Hotel, located at 550 Wellington. I have heard so much about the Thompson’s views of the city and sophisticated aesthetic; it was a no-brainer not book our stay with them.
After checking in to our nest for the night, the first thing we did when we got to the city was snag some brunch at Portland Variety. With cheers of our mimosas we gobbled up their delicious fare in no time and even snagged a latte on our way out!
Next up, the weather was gorgeous so we took in the sights as we walked along King Street to head to Toronto’s premier shopping experience, The Eaton Centre. Home to some of my favourites like Aritzia, J.Crew, Club Monaco and Zara this shopping centre has over 175 brand name stores, restaurants and entertainment.
After a full day of shopping we dropped off our bags and headed to Gusto 101 for some dinner and drinks on their patio. This restaurant has two patios to offer and some of the most mouth-watering dishes I have had in a while (not to mention their uh-mazing sangria)
Lastly, we were able to catch a gorgeous view of the sunset over the city on the Thompson Hotel’s private rooftop. What an amazing way to end my summer getaway!
