I love fashion, but can’t always afford it. That’s why I love mixing budget buys with designer pieces. It gets me the look for less and no one is the wiser. Here are my two tricks to getting a good mix in your wardrobe.
Invest in Staples
Those pieces you will have for years to come? Invest! Classic pieces like a great pair of boyfriend jeans or Celine sunglasses can be worn again and again, so I can justify the sticker price. But, even though I am wiling to invest in quality pieces that doesn’t mean I pay full price. Buying off-season is a big rule for me (as long as I have patience). For example, I recently snagged some classic black suede booties last month to replace the ones I have worn the past few years. But I bought them for a 60% off their regular price buying them in the spring instead of Fall. Sometimes it is super easy to get sidetracked with keeping an eye on the items you do need, so I always keep a running list in my phone that I can reach when I am out shopping in-store or online.
Go Cheap with Trends
Trends come and go, so it makes no sense to spend the big bucks on “of the moment” items that will only last a season. My secret? I keep and eye out for designer dupes at stores like Old Navy, Forever 21 or ASOS. It may take about a month to get a piece that’s inspired by the latest trend, but I find its worth the wait. Especially since I find trendy items only lasting a season or two. These sandals I am wearing in this post are similar to these Saint Laurent Sandals which are $995 regular price. I got this pair from Old Navy for less than $30. So, I won’t be losing sleep over only wearing these sandals for the summer.
