Because this was my first pregnancy and most of my close friends have yet to have kids, most of the time I was wandering solo and completely confused when it came to maternity clothes. Thankfully, with a few mistakes along the way I was able to gather some tips and tricks for dressing my newest accessory, the baby bump.
Maternity Styling Tips
Invest in the classics
When your belly starts to grow, some seams can hit your waist awkwardly (especially if you are trying to wear your non-maternity clothes). Opt for tops or dresses something that either don’t have a seem so your belly can fit freely
I was able to keep a constant rotation of my non-maternity clothes in my wardrobe if I layered. Keeping things like this leather jacket, chambray button up or easy cardigan undone paired with a simple maternity top underneath allows me to maximize my wardrobe options
Buy a Size Up
I was able to snag a bunch of items in the non-maternity section by simply sizing up. These purchases were met with a lot less guilt since I can still wear them post pregnancy
Don’t be Afraid to Show Off
Avoid items that are super billowy or flowy because they just make you look larger. Plus, one of my favourite parts about being pregnant was being able to show off my new bump. Wearing tighter fitting options like this dress allowed me to show of my smaller frame and ever-expanding bump.
