The reality is that morning is here and it’s time to begin your day!

My inclination is to quit the grumbling and whimpering, roll over, pull back the covers, plant both feet, ground yourself to the earth, and start being awesome. Up and at ‘em!

Morning wasn’t always my favourite time of day – but I’ve learned to adapt my lifestyle and make a few revisions to my routine, and I’m finally at a point where I (almost) always look forward to a bright and early fresh start to the day.

6 Easy Steps to Help You Become a Morning Person

It’s all about the prep. Most of us are either in school, working, or spend our days long enough away from home where at some point we need to eat. With that said, meal planning is key. It doesn’t take much… The night BEFORE, after dinner, while the kitchen is already in shambles, pack up some leftovers or whip yourself up a quick bowl. I find the easiest is pasta or quinoa salad – cook up some noodles or rice, chop up some raw veggies and voilà! I always bring a couple of snack foods or flex items with me for when hunger strikes between meals. This is how I get a lot of my raw fruits and veggies in; apple, celery or carrot sticks, orange… basic stuff. We also have so many options now for healthy on the go snack bars too. I’m obsessed with Vega bars and Taste of Nature bars atm.
Anyway, it takes 15 minutes tops, and adds that extra 15 precious minutes to your morning. I don’t know about you guys, but I love food so much that not knowing when I’ll be able to eat next causes me real anxiety lol #foodieprobz

If you don’t regularly use a planner or agenda, keep a note pad on your bedside table, and each night write down the things you need to get done for the next day.
This metaphorically clears the slate and rids your mind of the cluster of thoughts swarming your brain as you try and whine down for sleepy time. How are our bodies supposed to rest and digest when we’re having a nervous response about the dozens of things we need to accomplish tomorrow? Write things down. Your hand writing will still be there when you wake up, and you can truly get into a sounder sleep fast, and catch some quality Z’s. For the record, the number of hours you lie in bed doesn’t mean anything – it’s the quality of sleep, not the quantity. So regardless of how much you prep for the next day, if you’re not getting at least 7-9 hours of valuable sleep, you will still have a rough time getting up when your alarm sings.

Speaking of alarms, for a lot of us, that sound can be worse than nails on a chalkboard. Lets put an end to that altogether. 9 extra minutes of sleep? That’s just a tease. I used to set my alarm earlier just so I could snooze a couple of times… silliness! I once read that less uninterrupted sleep is more beneficial than more disturbed sleep. Personally, I just think it gives you a chance to wallow in your own self-pity before you get up and decide to be awesome ;). The period of sleepiness just lasts a brief 90 seconds on the zombie walk from your bed to the bathroom… and then its over! The sun is shining and you’ve hit the ground running! No snooze needed.

After you’ve finished your A.M cleansing and detox routine, set your new intention for the day. This one could be as simple as, “I am being kind to people today”, or “I am manifesting greatness today”. Saying those mantras and intentions out loud, in the present tense, makes them happen and attracts all things positive towards you. When you make your intentions, say them as if you already embody that. Make promises to yourself as if you have previously accomplished them. The subconscious mind doesn’t know the difference between what you are doing and what you intend to do. Your body believes your thoughts – so think positive, intend on happiness, envision yourself having abundance, and that you will become.

Drinking lemon water first thing before breakfast is a no brainer. In fact, there are so many benefits to doing so, that I could write an entire blog post on why you should do it… I rarely miss a day! Squeeze the juice of half a lemon into warm or room temperature water and drink up. This contributes to the alkaline state our bodies love to be in, jump-starts the liver’s detoxification pathways, and stimulates digestion. Generally speaking, drinking lemon water sets our bodies up for success. Before you leave home, look at yourself in the mirror… and smile. You did it. Say thank you to the Divine for another beautiful day; another chance to be whoever you want to be.
